The 12th September 2008 marked the 100th anniversary of the publication in the La Veu de Catalunya newspaper of the article entitled “Per la Costa Brava” (For the Costa Brava), by Ferran Agulló. This article mentioned the Costa Brava for the first time, referring to the coves and towns of the Mediterranean from the mouth of the River Tordera to the French border.
Just over a century after the Girona coastline was christened with the name Costa Brava, the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, the most important tourism promotion body of the Costa Brava, is commemorating the anniversary with a series of functions, events, artistic and cultural initiatives, and promotional actions, which from 12th September 2008 to 31st December 2010 will publicise and promote the attributes and values of the destination both at home and abroad.
Landscape, gastronomy, literature, music and glamour form the basis of the Centenary events and actions. These five themes will help us to understand the character of this area, which has become a top quality tourism brand.
Centenary Office
In May 2009 the Centenary Office was set up by the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona as a specific tool aimed exclusively at managing the Centenary of the Costa Brava. The office is headed by Carme Polo, who is aided by two support technicians.
