The Costa Brava has been a source of inspiration for many writers. This is clear to see in the countless books dedicated to the area and the thousands that have been written here. Josep Pla, Federico García Lorca, Truman Capote, Salvador Espriu, Joan Maragall and Caterina Albert are just some of these famous writers. As such, the Centenary is also a literary centenary where books play a starring role as well.
The Patronat de Turisme has made a selection of the most representative publications. Special editions will be reprinted of some of the books with direct links to the Costa Brava, its people, culture and landscape. One of them is Rediscovering the Costa Brava, published by Lunwerg, where readers can find an extensive selection of present-day and retrospective images of the natural and heritage attractions of the Costa Brava by the photographers Kim Castells, Francesc Català-Roca and Sebastià Jordi Vidal, with texts by Màrius Carol and Josep Playà.
Another book to be reprinted is Costa Brava, published by Angle, which takes us on a visual journey around the hidden corners, life and traditions of the counties and towns of the Costa Brava, from the sea to the mountains. On the occasion of the Centenary a special edition has been printed of the book Journey around the Costa Brava: Scenery, memories, glamour and tourism, by the journalist Xavier Moret, in which the author takes us on a leisurely journey using the voices of fishermen, boat builders and repairers, historians, and hotel and restaurant owners, complementing them with the stories of glamorous holidaymakers and artists touched by the Tramontane wind, amongst many others.
Other publications are also included in the celebration of the Centenary, including Cap Roig Gardens. History – Culture – Nature, published by the Caixa Girona Foundation, and the many publications that accompany the exhibitions held to raise the profile of the Costa Brava.
