"Visions of the Mediterranean" concert

The Costa Brava Centenary Concert

The Porta Ferrada Festival in Sant Feliu de Guíxols brings together different “Mediterranean voices” on the same stage to commemorate one hundred years of the Costa Brava.

On 17th July, in Sant Feliu de Guíxols Port, the concert Visions of the Mediterranean took place, co-produced by the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona and the Porta Ferrada International Festival on the occasion of the Centenary of the Costa Brava. Six voices from different corners of the Mare Nostrum were brought together on the same stage. Representatives of Catalan song (Joan Manuel Serrat from Catalonia, Maria del Mar Bonet from Mallorca and Franca Masu from Alghero) appeared together with Gino Paoli from Italy, Savina Yannatou from Greece and Noa from Israel to perform hits from their repertoires, accompanied by the Porta Ferrada Festival Orchestra and the instrumental group Barcelona 216, conducted by maestro Joan Albert Amargós.

This mixture of musical traditions united by the Mediterranean met with the rapturous response of the 2,000-strong audience, which included figures from the world of politics, culture and tourism. Politicians attending the event included José Montilla, President of the Catalan Government and President of the Honorary Committee of the Centenary; Enric Vilert, President of the Girona Provincial Council; the Catalan Ministers for Justice, Montserrat Tura, for Culture and the Media, Joan Manuel Tresserras, for Social Action and Citizenship, Carme Capdevila, and for Health, Marina Geli; the General Director of Turisme de Catalunya, Joan Carles Vilalta; and the Mayor of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Pere Albó.

Prior to the concert, the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona hosted a reception on the terrace of the Nautical Club of Sant Feliu de Guíxols. As in the case of previous concerts included in the Musical Nights of the Centenary, the Patronat de Turisme took the opportunity of this cultural and festive event to install an information stand in the port area where information and promotional material on the Centenary and the tourism offer of the Costa Brava was offered to those attending the event.

Through this concert the Centenary of the Costa Brava aimed to showcase the traditional music created in the Mediterranean region. The aromas, colours and personality of the Mediterranean people can be captured through their music, briefly transporting the character forged by the blue waters of the Mediterranean to any part of the world. The Centenary has shown its strong commitment to crossing frontiers and raising the international profile of the Costa Brava.
