In May 2009 the Centenary Office was set up by the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona as a specific tool aimed exclusively at managing the Centenary of the Costa Brava. The office has four key goals:
- To outline the main fields of action of the Centenary in a clear and convincing manner
It is necessary to establish which actions will raise the profile of the Centenary and to define the content of specific actions that must be added to the Patronat’s own initiatives. This means analysing, evaluating and supporting, where necessary, the various proposals submitted from around the area. Work is carried out on different levels:
-
Local level: aimed at raising awareness of the Centenary celebrations on the Costa Brava.
- State level: aimed at creating specific activities and capitalising on activities devised by the Patronat in order to spread the message of the Centenary and use them as a framework for celebration.
- International level: aimed at bringing international projects to the Costa Brava and scheduling actions in countries for which the Costa Brava is a priority destination.
- To contribute to the research and management of sponsorships.
Since the Centenary has been declared an “event of exceptional public interest” by the Spanish Parliament we hope to have a sponsorship programme in place that generates enough resources for objectives to be met.
- To develop the capacity to communicate.
Without promotion and communication the Centenary will go unnoticed. The Office will therefore raise awareness of the celebration both internally (in institutions, companies, associations and entities associated with the area) and externally (through the media).
- To coordinate the Centenary actions with the towns and organisations of the Costa Brava.
